Stephen Ministry

What is the Stephen Ministry?

Stephen Ministry is:

  • A one-to-one ministry by trained, caring members of our congregation.

  • A helping relationship focusing on the unique needs of each person.

  • A commitment to caring and supporting one another, to build a Christ-centered, sharing community.

  • A response to Christ's instruction to "love one another as I have loved you."

  • A biblical and educational training program.

  • A ministry named after Stephen, the first deacon in the early church, commissioned by the apostles.

Who is a Stephen Minister?

A follower of Jesus Christ who, through training has learned skills and developed his/her gifts in order to extend a supporting hand, bringing Christ's healing love to individuals in times of need.

What Kind of Needs Does Stephen Ministry Address?

Individuals who are:

  • Hospitalized

  • Grieving

  • Lonely

  • Depressed

  • Separated or in the divorce process

  • Shut-in

  • New parents

  • Dying

  • Families of the terminally ill

  • Experiencing loss

  • In trouble with the law

  • Experiencing life transitions

  • Struggling with their faith
